What makes Italian hard to transcribe

Italian pronunciation follows spelling closely, so base accuracy is high. What causes errors is doubled consonants: 'copia' and 'coppia' differ only by holding a consonant slightly longer, and in fast speech that distinction is easy to lose while completely changing the word.
