What makes Hindi hard to transcribe

Everyday Hindi speech is heavily code-mixed with English — a single sentence often runs Hindi grammar over English nouns and verbs. Transcription has to decide, word by word, whether to write Devanagari or Latin script, and getting that boundary wrong makes the text awkward to read even when every sound was recognised.

Hindi words appear in Devanagari and clearly English words stay in Latin script, which is how bilingual speakers actually write.

How accurate to expect

Clear Hindi, whether formal or conversational, transcribes well. The variable is how much English is mixed in and how abruptly the speaker switches.

What usually needs fixing

1. 1 Script boundary decisions in Hinglish, where a borrowed word could reasonably be written either way.
2. 2 Sanskrit-derived formal vocabulary in speeches and religious content, which is less common in everyday training audio.
3. 3 Regional accents from outside the Delhi–Mumbai belt, particularly Bhojpuri-influenced speech.

Getting better results

• → Do not split Hinglish recordings into separate files — context across the switch improves both halves.
• → Formal Hindi with Sanskrit-derived vocabulary transcribes more cleanly than colloquial Delhi speech.
